Game Modes

Sector, PvP and Base — what the client ships and where to play them.

Play happens in rooms. The lobby keeps a room list for each of the three families of map — Sector, PvP and Base — and you make a room or join one.

Sector

The co-operative stage mode. This is where most levelling and most item drops happen.

The Sector list has 40 maps, from [Level 1] Training to [Level 245] Funk Factory, plus Random Sector, which picks a map for the room when the match starts — one at or below the lowest level in it, so nobody is sent somewhere they cannot play. Each map is named for the level it is built for, and each has its own time limit, from 7½ minutes up to 40.

Seven of them are new in BouTZero: Matrix Core (Level 204), Jackal's Inferno (211), Devil Mountain (215), Cyber Mountain (221), Stormbreak Carrier (235) and Funk Factory (245) are hunting maps, each with a gear set of its own to hunt. The seventh, Halloween Special (Level 150), is the event map: open to every player while the Halloween event runs, it drops candy to trade in the shop instead of gear — see Halloween Event.

Difficulty

Every Sector room plays on Easy, Medium or Hard. New rooms start on Medium; the room master changes it in the room's rules, or types @rules difficulty easy, medium or hard in the room.

EXP and Gigas25% lessnormal25% more
Item boxes0.75× as manynormal1.25× as many

The difference is a share of the match's base EXP and Gigas. Coins are the same on every difficulty.

Coming with the next client update: a tougher Hard boss on every Sector map, and monsters that scale with the difficulty — 20% less Life and damage on Easy, 50% more Life and 30% more damage on Hard — in rooms where every player has the update.

Playing in a party

Item boxes are rolled for the whole room. When the levels in a party are close — no more than 20 levels between the highest and the lowest, counted when the match starts — every player gets about 80% of the item boxes a solo player would, so a full party finds far more than one player alone. A party with a wider spread shares a smaller bonus between everyone.

  • A player counts once they have made a kill in the match; someone who only stands in the room adds nothing.
  • EXP and Coins work as before, and gold bars drop at the solo rate.
  • On the Halloween Special, every candy pail pays every counted player in a close-level party.

PvP

Arena combat against other players, either every bot for itself (Individual battle) or in two teams (Team battle). There are 20 battle maps, and a room can pick one or leave the map on Random.

Base

Team maps built around attacking and defending a base, including mercenary units in the fight. The client ships 8 base maps.

Daily quests

Each day brings five quests across these modes — three Sector quests, one harder Sector challenge and one PvP or Base quest — and each pays Coins. Press Q in the lobby to see yours; Daily Quests has the details.

Members earn double EXP and Gigas from every match on Saturdays and Sundays (Berlin time) — see Membership.
