Getting Started
Make an account, install the client, and get into your first match.
BoutZero is a fan revival of the 2008 Acclaim mech game BOTS!!. It is free to play and runs on modern Windows.
1. Create an account
Register on this site. The account you make here is the same one the game client logs in with — there is no separate game registration. Your password needs 8 to 31 characters (see Accounts & Characters).
Characters themselves are created in the game client, not on the website, and there is one character per account.
2. Download and install
Grab the Windows client (about 3 GB) from the download page and put the folder somewhere of its own. There is no installer: the BoutZero Launcher inside the folder keeps it current.
Every time you start it, the launcher checks every file against the server and downloads only what has changed; then its PLAY button starts the game. Use it instead of running the game directly and you will never need to reinstall for a patch. See The Launcher.
3. Pick a BOT
At character creation you choose one of three chassis — Patch, Surge or Ram. See BOT Types for what separates them.
4. Play
From the lobby you can join:
- Sector — the co-operative stage mode, and where most levelling happens
- PvP — arena matches against other players, solo or in teams
- Base — team objective maps
See Game Modes for detail.
Daily quests give you five new goals every day at midnight Berlin time, each paying Coins, plus a bonus for finishing four of them. Press Q in the lobby or type @quests in chat — see Daily Quests.
